Confluence Elite shows you how to kick it up a notch with I these amazing and personalised home decor DIY’s…
There is nothing more satisfying than completing a home decor project all on your own! And Confluence Elite – The Concept Store, in a bid to encourage people to get their hands dirty, has come up with a plan to host a Do-It-Yourself event every month. The Ideal Home and Garden team had a sneak peek of this crafty initiative in July. Designer Manasi Manjrekar took us through some nifty tips and tricks on how to craft your own wall art!
The ribbon rampage
When handed ribbons, all hell breaks loose! For our first DIY, we went easy and simple.
You need:
An assortment of ribbons in various colours, a canvas/large sheet of paper and some glue.
Here is what manasi did:
Mark out where you want your design to start from and glue one end of the ribbon there.
Hold two of your fingers next to the glued part and loop the ribbon over to create an upside down U shape. Glue the end of the loop.
Once again, hold your two fingers next to the glued part and repeat the process.
Using one or many colours you can create lines with varying sizes of loops and create your own customised artwork!
Hidden under
The second DIY took us down memory lane and left us feeling nostalgic about our school days. This wall art idea takes something simple and turns it into something spectacular!
You need:
Acrylic paints, sponge, paint brush, Vaseline, canvas/large sheet of paper and some glue.
Here is what manasi did:
Remember the school days where we coloured an entire paper with various colours, layered black over and used a thin instrument to scratch out the design we want? This DIY works very much on the same principle.
Using a small piece of sponge, dab your choice of paint colour onto the surface covering the entire area. Let it dry
Take some Vaseline and draw the desired design over the first layer making sure you have enough Vaseline on the paper.
Using a brush, dilute your second colour with water, and paint over the first layer as well as the Vaseline. Let it dry.
Take a dry cloth or a cotton piece and wipe off the area where you had put the Vaseline. That area will remain untouched by the second coat of paint. And viola! A masterpiece.
Texture tales
Who knew everyday objects can create such brilliant pieces of art? A comb and some paper and you have a textured painting for that empty space!
You need:
A comb, acrylic paint, canvas/ large sheet of paper
Here is what manasi did:
Paint over the surface with your choice of colour, making sure to keep the coating thick.
While the paint is wet, take a comb and run it across the page creating a striped texture.
You can run the comb in straight lines or in a circular pattern. Experiment and explore!
