Skills developed over the decades are used in Velda’s latest collection.

For more than 50 years Velda has produced beds using traditional skills, and still continues to recruit apprentices to maintain these skills. The combination of this and modern technology is seen in its latest Multisense mattress collection, says Adrian Eyre, Velda UK sales agent.

All six mattresses in the range have an Aegis anti-microbe or Aegis Premium anti-microbe and moisture regulation treatment.

Single or double layers of multi-low springs act like a second layer of fillings providing high levels of support while reducing pressure points. The seven-zoned pocket sprung core is available in standard and firmer comfort levels.

Bases are in several formats: a boxspring base with full depth springs to provide support for the mattress, giving the bed a deeper more luxurious feel while reducing pressure on the mattress to aid its longevity and performance; adjustable slatted bases; and frames with slatted, pocket sprung or adjustable drop-in platforms. All bases have several options such as metal or wooden feet and choice of fabric.

Multisense covers are elastic, double stretched jersey that adapt and shape to the body in the same way as the foam, memory foam or latex fillings.

On some models the springs have inner tufting to provide the strength and securing of traditional tufting but with the comfort of a deep quilted cover without surface tufts. Springs are foam encapsulated to prevent rolling off.

Latex or visco toppers and latex pillows are also available.

Adjustable models offer a five-fold action with pillow lift and storage options.

Spoilt for choice.

Serene Furnishings has again expanded its bedroom offer.

Following a period of significant investment during 2012, in readiness for a succession of product launches this year, Serene Furnishings has been capturing the attention of retailers with its latest line up of beds and bedroom furniture.

At the beginning of the year, Serene announced that 2013 would witness a string of innovative products and collections, coupled with an unprecedented expansion of the business.

“This has most certainly been the case, with the company now offering its most diverse range to date, featuring unparalleled choice across a number of collections and material combinations. Key to the successful launch of the new designs and collections we are now seeing is the ability to service such growth in the business”, – says Tasleem Tasab, Serene founder and md. “Leaving no stone unturned, a middle management structure was put in place to take charge of key departments ensuring customer expectations are exceeded and our expansion plans met”.

Its warehouse facility has been expanded by 25% to provide 130,000sqft of storage to ensure high levels of stock and quick delivery on orders.

The first wave of launches saw the Metal Collection for 2013 and the Precious Metals Collection being well received. Tasab says these are its most diverse metal bed offering to date with something for every retailer and consumer alike.

“The new Metal Collection for 2013 offers more choice in size, finish and design. It is our largest metal range comprising metal beds, daybeds, folding beds, guest beds, headboards, kids’ beds and bunks. It complements the new and inspired Precious Metals Collection perfectly, which is a premium range of bedsteads presenting an eclectic revival of historic styles, aimed at the mid-upper end of the market and suited to both furniture and bed retailers alike”, – he explains.

Now Serene has turned its attention to wood.

“The beautiful new Oak Collection has harnessed the ever-present beauty of wood to present a design-led range of beds and drawers. Clearly evident on each piece is the unique grain detail of solid American white oak, with sharp lines and exquisite proportion best presenting the dependable strengths of the wood itself. Different styles are seamlessly connected to suit a wide variety of bedrooms and a selection of bed sizes, each with a posture sprung slatted base”, – says Tasab.

It is a collection centered around three key designs: Salisbury, Thornton and Windsor. The Salisbury offers tapered legs and clean lines, a choice of bed size and high or low footend. There are two bedside table options – single or three-drawer.

Thornton has a subtle curve to the top rail, which combines with sharp vertical lines to create a striking headboard for the low footend bed. It is complemented by a two-drawer bedside table and is available in a selection of sizes.

Windsor features a guest bed option that can be stowed away when not in use. Windsor also includes a two-drawer bedside table to complete the look.

The Hevea Collection has also been expanded with Freya, a bedstead in all sizes from 3ft to 6ft, with a guest bed option, and choice of Honey Oak and Opal White finishes. As with the wider Hevea Collection, Freya is made using environment- friendly Hevea wood from the brasiliensis tree, which is only felled for use in furniture production when it has reached the end of its natural rubber producing life.

Different types of beds.

1. Manufactured to Wittmann’s exacting standards of handcraftsmanship, the Teo headboard is an extension of the curved forms found in the Aria base. The transition from base to bedhead underlines the homely character of the piece.

2. With its contemporary gloss finish and black accent to the headboard, the Calvin bedroom from TCS gathers all the latest styling features into one complete range. This range of bedside cabinet, modular two-door wardrobes, a large slide robe, four, five and six drawer chests and a wide six drawer chest offer a greater choice to potential purchasers.

3. The Lux range from Team 7 has revamped the idea of the traditional bed with four legs, giving it an avant garde look featuring natural wood at its no-fuss best, and shapes and forms that create their own unique decorative elements.
